LANES Achieves HITRUST r2 Certification, Demonstrating the Highest Level of Information Protection Assurance

HITRUST

The certification deepens LANES’ commitment to protecting privacy and supporting whole person care across California

LOS ANGELES, April 1, 2025 — Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services (LANES), a California Qualified Health Information Organization (QHIO), today announced it has achieved HITRUST® r2 Certification for the 2024–2026 cycle. This milestone reinforces LANES’ commitment to securing protected health information (PHI) and ensuring the highest standards of data privacy and regulatory compliance, including the handling of sensitive data such as Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment records.

“With the healthcare industry facing increasing cybersecurity threats, data breaches, and complex regulatory demands, achieving HITRUST CSF Certification demonstrates our proactive approach to data security as well as provider and patient privacy,” said Jenn Johnson, Chief Privacy Officer. “This certification is particularly critical in protecting sensitive health information, including SUD-related data governed by 42 CFR Part 2, ensuring that patients’ privacy rights are upheld while enabling continuity of care and demonstrating our commitment to realizing whole person care in California.”

The HITRUST risk-based, two-year (r2) Validated Assessment represents the highest level of information protection and compliance assurance in the industry. This certification advances LANES’ already robust privacy and security posture and commitment to high standards, with benefits that include:

  • Enhanced Data Protection: HITRUST guarantees secure exchange and storage of sensitive health data, including SUD records, safeguarding patient confidentiality.
  • Secure Care Coordination: The certification supports responsible data-sharing practices that protect privacy while enabling providers to access vital information, leading to better-informed decisions for improved patient outcomes.
  • Risk Mitigation: HITRUST reduces vulnerabilities associated with handling sensitive data, especially relevant for supporting behavioral health and substance use disorders, preventing unauthorized disclosures, and maintaining trust between and among patients and providers.

Through this certification, LANES demonstrates its adherence to rigorous standards, including HIPAA, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and other authoritative sources. This certification reflects the implementation of tailored security controls based on specific risk factors. It is the most comprehensive and robust HITRUST certification.
